Silver Falls State Park near Silverton, Oregon, is the largest state park of Oregon enveloping a total area of 9000acres of land within its limits. The park got its name after the Silver Creek falls on the banks of which the green area is situated. The state park is around 32km on the east-southeast to the Salem. The state park is a great adventure zone with 39km of the walking trails, 6.4km of biking trails, and 23km of horse trails. The 14km Canyon trail twirls around the Silver Creek banks and the famous ten waterfalls, after which the park is being named.
History Of Silver falls State Park
The land piece where Silver Falls State Park is located now, used to be a not so fertile farmland and a little settlement of Silver Falls City. In 1990, a photographer from Silverton called June Drake took his stand in converting the land into a state park. But due to the logging problem in the land the authorities denied the plea.
Finally Silver Falls was announced to be a recreational demonstration project by the then US President in 1935. In late 50’s the South falls Lodge found its place amongst the National Register of Historical Places with the name of Silver Falls State Park.
Directions To Silver Falls State Park
Take Exit-253 and move towards east if coming from Interstate-5. Drive eastwards from Salem then take the Exit-7, from there go through under Highway-22. Follow the signboards leading to the Silver Falls State Park.
Take the Stayton-Sublimity Exit if coming from anywhere in the east. The way exits in a right, taking right will lead to the north. Drive straight via the town and then take a right turn to reach Highway-214, from there the signboards will lead to Silver Falls.
Lodging In Silver Falls State Park
There are marked lands where camping can be done. It is necessary to follow the guided rules for safety reasons. The state park provides great lodging facilities like the South Falls Lodge, which is a historical place to be in. Get cozy at the perfect wood-houses, the old and new ranch. The Silver Creek Youth Camp is a great place for the adventurous youths to bank upon and reserve fort the stay while camping in silver falls State Park. There are 45 tents available for overnight stays at the tent sites for even a more original feel of adventure.
The cabins are fantastic. The state park comes with 10 2-room rustic cabins and 4 single-room rustic cabins in the park. The electrical facilities are also available. Horse camps come with 5 regular sites and 1 group site with corals.
