George Fox University History
George Fox University situated in Newberg, Oregon was established in the year 1885. History credits the Quaker pioneers for the establishment of this glorious university. Ever since this university that first began as the Friends Pacific Academy has come a long way to become Oregon’s third largest private college. The institution’s unwavering dedication towards spreading Christian education has been evident throughout.
The Quaker pioneers facilitated an academy which later came to be known as Pacific College in the year 1891. Over the years the academy came to be transformed into a for year school by 1925. By the year 1949 the school acquired the name of George Fox College in honor of George Fox who was the beginner of the Quake Movement.
The year 1996 is significant because the college integrated with the Western Evangelical Seminary and came to be known as George Fox University.
The 2004 NCAA Division III national championship tournament of the George Fox University baseball team is recalled to be one of the historic moments of the university. It was categorized to be among the top 50 moments in Northwest Sports History by a radio station of Portland.
Over the years the George Fox University enrollment has witnessed immense growth of over 500% since the year 1986. According to current stats George Fox University comprises of almost 3400 students.

George Fox University Athletics
The George Fox University in Oregon boasts of hosting an immensely successful college sports program of the Northwest. As such intercollegiate athletics have always been considered as a vital part of George Fox University.
However at George Fox, more than the athleticism, it is the student’s scholastic and educational ability that determines financial schemes and scholarships. The university seeks to maintain a sound balance between academics and athletics. The George Fox teams come under membership of the Northwest Conference and have been competing in division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Sports teams home to George Fox are referred to as the Bruins. A total number of 15 first team sports are offered by the University. The sports have been further subdivided as 8 for women and 7 for men. Men can look forward to playing soccer, basketball, golf, baseball, cross country as well as track and field. Women participate in tennis, softball, basketball, golf, cross country, volleyball, soccer as well as track and field.
Athletes of George Fox bring pride to the University. They have brought in over 300 All American and All – American – Scholar–Athlete awards to the glory of the University. In fact the 2005 movie starring Samuel .L.Jackson has been inspired by the legendary coach Ken Carter.
